The Adams County Relay for Life this year will be held at Adams Central on June 26. The event starts at 6:00pm with cancer survivors making the first lap around the track and at 9:30, the luminaria ceremony will begin. This year’s Adams County Honoree is Meghan Pettibone. Meghan goes to St. Joe daycare and her brother, Zach, is in the first grade here at St. Joe.
We will be selling paper moons and stars for 50¢ each that you will be able to put a name or names of cancer victims on and we will hang those up here at school. Also, we will be selling luminarias for $10.00 each. One of the most moving parts of the Relay for Life event is the Luminaria Ceremony of Hope. As darkness falls, the night is brightened by the glow of illuminated bags called luminaria, each of which has a special meaning. Luminarias can be in memory of someone or in honor of someone that is winning the fight against cancer. Their name will be written on a bag and a candle inside the bag will be lit during the ceremony to illuminate their name.
If you’d like to purchase a moon, star, or luminaria, please see Mrs. McDonald. Checks should be written out to the American Cancer Society.
