HOURS OF OPERATION: OUR HOURS ARE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 6:30 A.M. TILL 6:00 P.M.
Registration Fee-$50.00 per family. If you have a child in preschool, there is only a one time per year registration fee of $50.00. This includes both daycare and preschool. If you have a child at St. Joe School, there is only a one time per year registration fee of $75.00. This includes daycare, preschool, latchkey, and grade school.
Insurance Fee-$20.00 per child. If you have a child at St. Joe, preschool or in latchkey, you would only pay once per child per year.
Full-time- $3.00 per hour. Minimum 7 hours per day for 5 days, or 35 hours per week.
Part-time- $3.35 per hour. Less than 7 hours per day and 5 days per week, or less than 35 hours per week.
Varied- $3.45 per hour. A Different schedule week to week. Schedule must be given on the Friday before the week scheduled to be guaranteed a spot in daycare. If no schedule is given, a spot cannot be guaranteed.
Minimum Times: There is a minimum time in which your child must be scheduled per week. For the Garden, Ocean, Candyland, and Barnyard Rooms, the minimum is 12 hours per week. For the Jungle Room, there is a minimum of 5 hours per week. For the Commodore Club, there is a minimum of a half hour per day.
-Families with more than one full time child will be discounted $2.00 per day for each of the 2nd, 3rd , etc. child attending.
-Any child picked up after closing (6:00 p.m.) will be charged $1.00 per minute based on the daycare clock.
-Full price will be charged for any missed scheduled day. Varied will be charged for any day scheduled the Friday before. The maximum charged for any missed day will be 7 hours. If you are part time or varied and cancel one of your scheduled days and add another day, you will still be charged for the day that you cancel. If your child is sick for more than 3 days in a row, you will not be charged for the following days.
-Each family will have a slot for their daycare bill. The bills will normally be distributed every Monday. Payment will be due by that Friday and can be put in either of the locked payment boxes in the Garden Room or the Jungle Room. The bills will reflect the week prior to payment. If payment is not received in a timely manner, a $5.00 late fee per week will be added to your bill. We have the right to dismiss a child if payments are not made. Any questions about your bill can be directed to the director or to Jane Beery at the school office. Please be sure to keep an eye on your weekly bill and call with any questions, as human error is always a possibility and we want to bill you fairly.
-Full time children who are also attending St. Joe Preschool are still considered full-time.
-A charge of $30.00 will be imposed for any check returned for insufficient funds.
-We will offer one week per year for all families that are year round to take off without being charged. This will be one consecutive week. If you are full-time you would get 5 days in one week off. If you are 3 days a week you would get 3 days in a week off. There will be no charge to you on that week. It will be your responsibility to let the director know when you want to take your week. You cannot carry over year to year. The year will be considered August to August.
PICK UP POLICY:
-All children must have a firm and predictable drop off and pick up time due to staffing.
-If you are going to be any more than 15 minutes late to pick up your child, a phone call is required. We staff according to your child’s schedule.
-Everyone dropping off or picking up children must initial them in and out. The time is to be recorded by the caregiver. Your child will not be counted out until you exit the room. Please feel free to check on your child’s progress with the caregiver, but realize that the children leaving on the 6:00 p.m. pickup time need to leave in a timely manner. As our caregiver’s have schedules outside of daycare that they need to honor.
-You will need to fill out a permission to pick up form. Anyone other than the parents that are to pick up a child will have to be cleared through the parents. They must show their drivers license at time of pick up and they must be listed on the form filled out by the parent of the child. This is for the safety of your children.
-To enter the Daycare and pickup your child, you must buzz in. The doors of the daycare are locked at all times. If the caregiver who is at the monitor doesn’t recognize you, they may ask for information before buzzing you in. Please be patient with this process, as not all caregivers have seen all parents and grandparents. This process is also for the safety of your children.
The daycare will be opened on all days stated on the year’s calendar. Any date that states the daycare to be closed, you will not be charged for. The only exception is if Adams County would declare a code “warning”, we would then be closed. Make sure you listen to WZBD, 92.7 F.M. If there is any question as to whether we will be opened, always call ahead or feel free to text my cell number to double check before you make a trip in. It is recommended that you set up a backup plan for your child’s care in the event that they would get sick or during our closings.
DELAY OR SCHOOL CLOSING COMMITMENTS:
For staffing purposes, we need a commitment from parents stating if their children will attend as usual or come in after a school delay. If your child arrives when the delay is over, you will only be responsible to pay for their hours in attendance that day. If there is a school cancellation, and you’ve committed to no attendance, there will be no charge. If you commit to normal hours, and decide not to bring your child in, you will still be charged. The daycare will remain open on weather related delays and school closings. The only exception is a code “warning”.
SUMMER CHILDCARE POLICY:
If you are not in need of childcare for the summer, you will be guaranteed your spot back in the fall. It is important that you make a commitment as to what summer care you need for staffing purposes. You will register for summer care in the spring.
PARENT’S NOTICE POLICY:
When you register your child for daycare, you will receive a parent notice form. This is a form required by the state and must be filled out each year and dated. This form states that we are a ministry. As a ministry, we are inspected at various times throughout the year for safety and sanitation. We are not notified when these inspections take place.
According to our state regulations, we must have a record of your child’s immunization shots. Forms will be given to you and must be filled out and returned before your child can attend the daycare. It is important that you keep your child’s forms up to date. The state inspector randomly checks these files, and if they are not up to date, they can dismiss your child from the daycare until they are updated.
Parents will be notified if their child becomes ill at daycare. Parents are responsible to remove their child within one hour from notification. It is very important that you or someone is reachable at all times in case of an emergency with your child. Children on antibiotics must wait 24 hours before returning to the daycare to reduce the chance of spreading the infection to others. The following are indications of illnesses that will necessitate removal:
-Fever- 100 degrees or above. Children should be free of fever for 24 hour before returning to daycare. We cannot treat a fever to keep your child in daycare.
-Vomiting- One or two episodes depending on the circumstance.
-Diarrhea- With two or more loose stools in a row, depending on the circumstances.
-Rashes- Rashes that are not identified, or that have not been diagnosed as noncommunicable by a physician will need to be seen by a doctor before returning to daycare.
-Colds-Children with severe colds with sneezing, coughing and excessive nose drainage may be sent home.
-Diseases-Certain diseases or medical conditions may require the attention of a physician before a child may be admitted to daycare. These include but are not limited to: Impetigo, strep throat, conjunctivitis or “pink eye”, chicken pox, pin worm, bronchitis.
****We are not in a position to diagnose children’s conditions, but will make the decision as to whether the child needs to be removed from daycare until diagnosis has been made by their physician. It is often not an easy call and never our intent to inconvenience the parents. For the health and safety of all involved, please work with us in keeping your children home when they are sick. A form will be given stating why the child is being sent home and when they may return.
If your child has an incident that causes them injury, we will fill out an injury form. We will show it to the parent at pickup time and the parent will sign the form. If there is ever a serious injury, we will always call to inform the parent.
If you can arrange the dispersal of medicine at home, please do so. If not, a form for each child and each medicine must be filled out completely. Please be sure on all prescription medications, that the proper name and dosage matches that on the bottle. Also make sure you send along the proper medicine dispenser to match the dosage. If your child is receiving breathing treatments, they will still need to fill out a form. If you leave a pain reliever such as Tylenol to give your child, we will take your child’s temperature before the medicine is given to be sure we are not covering up a fever.
Breakfast will be provided prior to 8:00 a.m. for all rooms except the Garden Room. The Garden Room differs, as the babies eating schedules all will obviously vary. Poptarts, cereal, and juice will be offered or you can bring them in something from home. All rooms will eat lunch at approximately 11:00 a.m. (with the exception of the Garden Room) The children will need to either bring a sack lunch or order hot lunch through the North Adams program. If anyone forgets their child’s lunch and does not order hot lunch before 8:00 a.m. we will supply your child with a lunch here and will add $2.00 to your weekly bill. This lunch will consist of a microwave meal, and 2 sides. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided.
*Ministry regulations regarding food policy:
No home prepared snacks to share for birthday treats or other circumstances. Please feel free to bring in store bought treats.
All bottles need to be marked with the child’s name and date. Sippy cups, pacifiers and all other items need to be marked in the Garden Room, Ocean Room, Candyland Room and Barnyard Room.
We may not reuse sippy cups or utensils. We do have plastic utensils here for use. All sippy cups placed in the refrigerator must have a covering over the top to avoid contamination. If you are using powdered formula that must be mixed with water, you will need to prepare them at home and bring them in their covered bottles with the date on them. We cannot prepare bottles with the powder. We can however prepare bottle with the premixed liquid. We can only feed babies breast milk from a bottle. We cannot allow breast milk in sippy cups as spilling occurs and it would compromise the regulations of the universal precautions. For more of the breast milk regulations, you will receive a separate sheet as it pertains to you.
A complete change of clothes for each child is necessary. It is recommended that more than one change of clothes be brought for the Garden Room and for new potty trainers. Make sure as the seasons and temperature changes, that you check your child’s change of clothes. It is also suggested that each child keep a sweatshirt or light jacket on their hooks all year. The daycare does not follow the school dress code. We just suggest that they wear weather appropriate and comfortable clothing. If they want to wear shoes that aren’t “playground friendly”, feel free to bring in a pair of gym shoes for them to change into. You can also just keep a pair here all year, make sure you put your child’s name on them.
PERSONAL NEEDS POLICY:
Parents need to provide for their child all necessary diapers, wipes, diaper ointment, sunscreen, or other personal needs. If your child has a special nap time comfort item, such as a blanket or small stuffed animal, please feel free to bring it in. All children napping on cots need to bring a small blanket and pillow. Please mark them with your child’s name. The cot sheets are provided and cleaned weekly. Blankets and pillows need to be cleaned by you as you see necessary.
POTTY TRAINING POLICY:
We are happy to work with our parents in the task of potty training. First we ask that you establish a routine with them at home. Due to the numbers of children in our care, we cannot commit to taking your child every hour. We will take them at their request,or on our regular bathroom times. Please, while they are in this process, make sure you have more than one change of clothes for them. If you bring your child to the daycare in underwear and they have an accident, we will put them back in a diaper or pull up, unless they are advanced in their training and rarely have accidents. We recommend no onesies, and easy to handle pants. This encourages independence so they can pull their own pants up and down.
All children in daycare will nap. In the Garden Room, the baby’s nap times will vary according to their needs. In the Ocean, Candyland, Barnyard, and Jungle Rooms, the children will all nap as a group according to the room’s schedule. As your children move up to the older rooms, naps will be shortened, as we realize they need to get ready for preschool and kindergarten schedules.
MARK ALL ITEMS!!! It is very important that you mark all of your children’s items. We have a great number of children here and to reduce the risk of loosing your child’s things we ask that you mark everything. This list includes, but is not limited to: Lunch boxes, changes of clothes, blankets, pillows, sippy cups, bottles, lids, pacifiers, coats, shoes, etc. This is something that you will have to do more than once a year as it washes off. Please check your children’s items often.

Jungle Room (3 years to 5 years) 10 to 1 Children in this room must be independent in their toileting skills and will be required to sign up for their age appropriate preschool class.
Latchkey (Kindergarten through 5th Grade) 15 to 1

QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS POLICY:
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s care or schedule, please direct them to your child’s caregiver. If you are not satisfied with the results, feel free to go to the director of the daycare. After you have spoken to the caregiver and the director, you can talk to the principal and from there, the pastor. Any billing questions, you may contact either the supervisor or the school secretary.
The curriculum for the daycare includes weekly projects in every room. We will also have music and story time every day in every room. In the Jungle and Barnyard rooms we will have a weekly bible story. We will have daily exercise by activities in the gym, playground, or walks. A more specific schedule will be given individually in your child’s “room description”.
This program is designed for children needing after school care in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Our program offers child care from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on regular school days. We charge our regular part time rate and follow the same policy for absence. Latchkey offers a wide range of activities including gym time, computer time, recess time, homework time, arts and crafts, and games. Our summer program offers a wide range of activities that include many field trips and visiting demonstrations from local businesses. Please read through this handbook for policies about absences, sickness, payment, etc. as they are the same for Latchkey as they are our regular daycare. Our Latchkey program also, goes along with our regular Daycare calendar for days we will be out. If Daycare is in on a day that St. Joe is out we will offer care all day for your child. Please let the Director or the Latchkey instructor know if your child will need childcare on those days. Due to the fact that this program is very mobile, pick up time can be confusing. To pick up your child, please go to the Daycare door number 3. You will receive a schedule so you know where your child is at your pick up time or you may ask a Staff member and they will direct you where you can pick up your child. If you have a child that you would like to walk home, you must sign a release form before we can do so.
PICK UP AND DROP OFF PROCEDURE:
It is very important for the safety of all of the children of St. Joe School and Daycare to follow pick up and drop off procedures. The hours of 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. are the most congested and confusing. When you come to drop off or pick up your child, please park beyond door #2 on 4th Street and leave the walkway clear. Door #1 needs to be clear for buses and Door #2 needs to be clear for preschool drop off. Please be sure to watch for the buses on 4th Street. If their arm is out, please stop! Also, under no circumstances, go past the barricades if they are up. These are considered traffic violations and you could be fined for this.
